Flood Safety
There are many potential dangers when floodwaters rise. Here are some important safety tips to keep your family safe:
- Create a plan and have an emergency kit!
- Avoid standing water (may contain fecal matter, bacteria, and viruses).
- Do not drive through moving or standing water (2 ft can disable most vehicles).
- Treat non-functioning traffic signals as a four-way stop.
- Observe barricades and detours.
- Clear yard debris that may block drains.
- Avoid downed power lines (assume they are live).
- Follow all detour signs and instructions.
Sandbags

Mosquito Prevention

Shelters
If you live in an evacuation zone (barrier island, coast, flood zone, mobile home), plan ahead to stay with family, friends, a hotel inland, or as a last resort, a shelter.
